✈️ Telegram's current blocking system, while commendable in its intent, requires improvement to effectively protect user privacy. Inspiration can be drawn from Instagram's robust blocking system, which offers a potential model for enhancing user safety and environmental consciousness within Telegram.
📸 Instagram's blocking system effectively balances user anonymity with personal boundary protection. Blocked accounts become inaccessible and invisible to the blocker, and the system automatically captures future accounts created by the blocked individual, minimizing unwanted interactions.
🕵️♂️ This approach prioritizes anonymity by presenting blocked individuals with a generalized profile like «John Smith and other related accounts», concealing the specific identities and actions of those who initiated the block.
♻️ Implementing a similar system in Telegram could address the issue of block circumvention, particularly prevalent in group chats, channels, and private messages. The current system's vulnerability to bypass through new SIM cards or fake numbers fosters harassment and waste.
🤖 Telegram's existing infrastructure, with its capacity for sophisticated data analysis via AI, suggests the feasibility of implementing this enhanced blocking mechanism. Identifying and aggregating accounts from the same client server could be a potential approach.
🌟 Adopting an Instagram-like blocking system would significantly improve Telegram's user protection capabilities, offering a robust defense against unwanted interactions while upholding privacy principles. This enhancement has the potential to greatly improve the user experience within the Telegram ecosystem.
📍📋 Brief description:
🛂 Telegram should upgrade its blocking system:
• When blocking or restricting a particular user, all present multiple accounts should inherit the restrictions. Regardless of where the blocking is being performed: channel, private chat, group chat;
• Blocking preview text should contain «Do you want to block <user> and other accounts they might potentially have and create in the future?»;
• The performer of blocking action should not be informed of the exact secondary accounts being blocked. This also implies that nicknames of secondary accounts should not be listed in Recent Actions, if the action has been taken in a group or a channel;
• Telegram servers already do record data regarding multiple accounts being authorized under the same client setup — there is no doubt in that. So Blocking 2.0 should simply get use of that;
• The blacklisted individual should not be able to open or search accounts that have restricted the access to their page — they instead they be displayed as nonexistent or Deleted Accounts;
• This suggestion must be integrated on one or another stage of Telegram, [but most preferably in the closest time possible], because attacks and intervention, stalking performed by users easily getting a plethora of alternative accounts puts people in jeopardy of social hunting.
