Open any chat or channel containing a video with subtitles/captions.
Start playing the video in portrait mode (vertical orientation) and verify that subtitles are visible at the bottom.
Rotate the device to landscape mode (horizontal orientation) to watch the video in full screen.
Current result
When the screen is rotated to landscape mode, the video scaling becomes too large, causing the subtitles to be cut off or entirely pushed off the screen.
Expected result
The video should scale properly in landscape mode without cutting off the bottom area, ensuring that subtitles remain fully visible. Alternatively, a zoom/aspect-ratio toggle should be available to scale down the video when necessary.
Workaround
Do a slight swipe up gesture while in landscape mode to scale the video correctly.
I can confirm that this issue is still present on my vivo iQOO 15R running Android 16 / OriginOS 6. In landscape fullscreen mode, the top of the video remains visible, while only the bottom part of the frame is cropped off. A normal upward swipe does not fix it in my case. However, a pinch-to-zoom-out gesture reveals the complete frame, with black empty areas appearing above and on both sides. This indicates that Telegram is applying an incorrect default zoom/cropping mode. Please investigate and fix the landscape video scaling.
Additional report (Redmi Turbo 5 Max / Android 16 / Telegram Android latest as of 2026-09-27):
1. Opening a video defaults to fullscreen stretch (fill). Bottom subtitles are cropped/covered. 2. Switching to fit/letterbox (side black bars), then swiping up, causes the bottom of the video/subtitles to be obscured by the system gesture navigation bar.
Expected: Subtitles stay fully visible; layouts respect the gesture inset. Actual: Stretch crops subtitles by default; fit + swipe-up overlaps the gesture bar.
