A message info screen with more information about the 'read' status of messages:
Knowing that you can count on the fact that a certain group member read the message.
You can currently rely on a person's Last Seen status (if they are sharing it with you) to get a general idea of when they've read your messages – and whether they've read messages in your common groups.
If it's important to know when a certain message gets read in a group, you could ask your recipients to acknowledge they've read it (for example, with an animated sticker).

For private or for small groups. Less than 5k members for example
I believe most sensible defaults would be:
1. Allow for private groups.
2. Block for public groups.
3. Require admin enable this feature in public groups before using it at all.
4. Feature depends on Online status visibility: if someone is blocked to see your online status, they can't see your enhanced read status.
I would be fine with just a number of people who's yet to read any given message.
At least this way, I at least have some meaningful number. For instance, I can show up to a meeting and say "10 of you are still not reading the messages I send out." or "Even though most of you have READ my message, only 5 of you have completed the survey that I asked" or something like that.
