Right now, Telegram allows users to delete both their own messages and the other party's messages for both people, which is terrible because it allows the other person to delete your own messages without consent, leaving no trace or proof you've ever written them, without asking for permission. This means the other person can edit the whole conversation and make it look as if you haven't written some things unless you either periodically backup the whole chat from the pc version or constantly screenshot important parts. Manipulative people can use this to their own advantage to spin their very own version of what was written, complete with proof.
My suggestion would be to either allow the other person to only delete their own messages + delete your messages only on their end (meaning you still have your own messages on your end), or - if they delete your messages for both parties - replace the deleted message with "the other person deleted your message". Another possible solution would be that when they try to delete your message for both parties, a notification pops up to request if you want to allow that.
Just to clarify, I am not asking to prevent the whole chat's deletion for both parties. I am only asking to remove the ability to delete specific messages in the chat on both devices, unless you wrote them yourself.

I feel like the feature of deleting messages (that weren't sent by you) & whole chats on both ends without the other party's consent isn't fair and if the feature stays then permission from the other party should be requested and given in order for the deletion to go ahead. But in my opinion this feature could just be removed completely, because:
1. Requesting permission from the other person to delete a message of theirs (or a whole chat for both ends), would take as much time as the other person deleting it for themself on their end, so it'd basically be the same thing & end up as an unnecessary feature
^ if anybody has any reasons as to why this feature could be necessary or useful though, lmk :)

I can't stand it when people just decide they can delete our ENTIRE conversation and I have no choice in the matter.
Very important information has been lost twice because of this feature.
I never have this issue on any other SM platform, only on here. Mind you, you can't delete entire conversations on most other platforms.

Came here just to say nobody should be able to edit my sent email nor my sent messages. This is enabling abusive behavior and could have legal repercussions for people. I can see wanting to hide a message on their own side for privacy, but, they should NEVER be able to delete MY sent message off MY devices.

Given that Durov has been very actively advertising for this "feature", I doubt the Telegram team will be very open to change their position on this, sadly. There must exist a better way than trusting your chat partner from going psycho batshit crazy and delete everything in a fit of anger.
