Since Telegram for iOS version 11.3, a bug was introduced:
When clicking or searching a tag, the top bar shows This Chat, My Chats, and Public Posts.
At this point, clicking an image or video will not enter full-screen mode; part of it will be covered by this UI overlay, and the controls in the top-right corner of the image or video will also be obscured.
In versions prior to 11.3, images and videos display in full screen normally.
I upgraded from iOS 17.6.1 to iOS 18.6.1. It seems that iOS 17.6.1 did not have this issue.
In any case, downgrading Telegram to a version earlier than 11.3 resolves the problem.
Please check Telegram version 11.3.
Steps to reproduce
Open Telegram 11.3+ on iOS 18.6.1.
Go to any chat or public channel.
Click or search for a tag (e.g., #example).
In the search results, tap any image or video.
Observe that the media does not enter full-screen mode.
Notice that the top bar (This Chat, My Chats, Public Posts) covers part of the media, and the controls in the top-right corner are also obscured.
For example, when I clicked the #News tab, in versions prior to 11.3, clicking on an image or video would behave the same as if the tab wasn’t clicked — it would appear at the top layer. However, in version 11.3+, when opening an image/video, the options at the top-right are blocked and the “Search Interface” appears.

Telegram Review: Full-Screen Video Obstruction by Search Bar
I’ve always loved Telegram for its smooth functionality and user-friendly design, but the latest update introduced a frustrating glitch that impacts media viewing. When searching for tagged content within groups, videos in the search results have a major display issue—the search bar remains fixed and blocks the top portion of the video when switching to full-screen mode.
This obstruction ruins the viewing experience, as crucial parts of the video are hidden behind the persistent search bar. It’s especially annoying when watching longer videos or content where visual details matter. The feature to search group tags is incredibly useful for navigating large communities, so this bug feels like an unnecessary setback to an otherwise seamless tool.
I hope the development team can address this quickly—adjusting the search bar to auto-hide during full-screen video playback would resolve the issue entirely. Despite this flaw, Telegram remains my go-to messaging app, and I’m confident this minor hiccup will be fixed in a future update

Let's wait for the developer to accept the changes.
