In some chats one can jump into a discussion thread from any message by right / long click -> view thread. This is available on mobile clients, but not on eg windows TG program.
I would like to have this feature documented, as it both depends on the client and on the chat used.
BUt even on mobile client, most chats do not support it.
I want to be able to tell admins how to enable it.
And as it is very useful, I would like to suggest to have it on all clients.
It is the only way to follow a topic alas „thread“ in very active groups or on „slow threads“ where answers spread over a large time.
In some groups special conditions must be met to call a thread a thread, like two people answering directly and not sequentially to the thread starter message. This behaviours is strange and I could not find precise documentation on it. Please help to unify behaviour or clarify the existing variability of cases.
From observation, this feature appears in : - public supergroups - private supergroups (only on thread start message with the 💬 icon) - discussion groups (groups linked to channels)
It does not appear in : - topics groups (the topic itself is a thread, so it can't have nested threads within it) - basic groups (which are like 1-1 chats with additional participants)
This feature is serverside meaning it should work on all clients, but the behaviour differs slightly because the clients are themselves different projects. In the Desktop client, unfortunately, only the starting message of the thread can be right-clicked to open the thread. But I think it's just a weird decision and it could be changed to match other clients. A benefit of the Desktop client however : it can copy the thread link directly from the thread screen, whereas mobile client copies a normal message link.
You can access it manually by appending the parameter "thread" to a public group message link, like so : t(dot)me/groupname/message_id?thread=message_id2 (this second id seems unimportant) Or the parameter "comment" to a channel message link, but you might need the correct group message id : t(dot)me/channelname/message_id?comment=group_message_id
I don't know about links in private groups though.

As this feature is multiple years old, this problem has been reported a few times already, you can search "view thread" or "view replies" in this platform to upvote existing cards. Most of them have gathered only a few votes. Example View Thread is missing #10350
