Telegram needs 2 layers protection when deleting chats on both ends. This is something I am seriously concerned about when it comes to deleting chats on both ends. I get why it is useful. But think about your chat with your SO. It is the last thing you wanna delete accidentally and sometimes I even worry if my cat sits on the laptop, there is a chance it might get deleted. Maybe, Telegram should allow users to make deleting certain chats more protected. For example, deleting a particular chat may require the second step of authentication (password), instead of just two taps. This way, the trusted two ends of a chat may agree to set this lock on their chats so it cannot get deleted so "effortlessly". It will also protect these locked chats from someone malicious who happened to have access to the open account (user forgot to logout) from deleting stuff from the account. Maybe something to consider in the future. If you read this, let me know what you think.
this. just accidentally deleted my years of Saved messages, because i wanted to delete a single message. I basically just used it to save a few pictures and links to memes, but that saved messages grew close to my heart over a long time

Suddenly, five years' notes turned up deleted. I certainly didn't push the deletion myself, there really needs to be protection here.

This happened to me and my SO a few weeks ago :( Our entire chat history was deleted on both ends while we were talking on the phone, due to accidental cheek taps. And even though it's all still in one of our devices that wasn't connected to the internet at the time, the support team finally replied (after almost 3 weeks) and said there's no way to recover it and it will just disappear as soon as it goes back online. They said all we can do is *manually copy every message* and paste it somewhere else. There definitely should be an extra authentication step, or at least a longer period to undo the action (a few hours at least, not just 5 seconds) especially for the option to delete the chat for both parties. Really upset about this :(
After so long, they still do not care. I don't think they'll do anything about it. Sorry about your situation. I take extra care when there is a chance random movements may get my chat deleted.

Same happened with me, sad there is no way to recover it
Sorry to hear! A workaround is that you can export a chat. Also, I hope you know that in the app, you can select one message and scroll at the same time to select multiple messages.

This would be great since my Saved Messages got empty and I do not recall clearing the history or removing the chat altogether.

An extra-extra layer of protection should be added for My Messages. It's one of the best features of Telegram, and if it happens that you delete it by mistake you can't recover its contents even if it is stored on cloud.

I wonder why an important feature like this is not employed with extreme urgency. I've experienced two times a relatives of mine just delete the whole chat instead of a single message, he's not very practice with technology but there's also any protection option that alerts you're going to delete everything which is more important than a single message!

It happens two times to me. Just woke up and everything is gone! it is unacceptable! Every person saves important things in the Saved Massage section and there will be a way to recover or protect these massages.
