I plan to subscribe to Telegram Premium, because I value the service Telegram provides and would like to directly contribute to its continued existence. However, in the communities that I'm part of, lots of people don't have the disposable income required to pay monthly for a chat app. I don't want to contribute to the creation of another wealth-based status symbol in my communities, which the "I pay for Telegram" icon might be.
Could the Premium star icon be removed, or at least off-by-default with an option for users to toggle it on if they want?
Other social platforms with user monetization features do not tell other people when you pay for the platform. For example, nobody can tell if you pay for Twitter Blue or YouTube Red. I think Telegram would do well to follow their lead.
No, the opposite is true. Other platforms like Discord or Odysee tell other users that you payed and you can't turn it off. Furthermore, it shouldn't be off by default.
But yes, we should get an option to turn it off.
