I would like to report a camera orientation issue that appeared this morning, November 6, 2026, possibly following a recent Telegram update.
Device information:
iPhone 12 Pro MaxiOS version: 27.2Telegram version: 13.2
Problem description:
Until yesterday, I could take landscape photos directly using Telegram's built-in camera without any issues.
Since this morning, whenever I take a photo while holding my iPhone horizontally, the resulting image is incorrectly saved or sent in portrait orientation, rotated 90 degrees sideways.
I have also noticed another abnormal behavior: when I hold my iPhone horizontally before opening Telegram's attachment camera, the live camera option is unavailable. I can only access existing photos from my gallery. The live camera option becomes available when holding the iPhone vertically.
Troubleshooting already performed:
Completely closed and restarted Telegram – no improvement.Restarted the iPhone – no improvement.Cleared Telegram's cache – no improvement.Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Telegram – no improvement.Tested landscape photography using the native iPhone Camera app – works perfectly.Sent landscape photos taken with the native iPhone Camera through Telegram – the orientation is correctly preserved.
Impact:
I use Telegram professionally to photograph and send item to an automated image-processing workflow. (To many picture to take picture with classic camera, and then attach on telegram, i need to take live picture and send it to the bot)
This issue disrupts my workflow because photos taken directly through Telegram arrive rotated incorrectly.
The problem appears to be specific to Telegram's built-in camera rather than the iPhone camera or the receiving system.
Could you please investigate whether this is a regression introduced by the latest iOS version of Telegram and advise if a fix is planned?
Thank you for your assistance.
Best regards,
Julien
Steps to reproduce
1 Open Telegram on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 27.2.
2 Open any conversation or chat.
3 Hold the iPhone vertically and tap the paperclip (attachment) icon.
4 Open Telegram's built-in camera.
5 Rotate the iPhone horizontally (landscape orientation).
6 Take a photo while holding the phone horizontally.
7 Send the photo to the conversation.
8 Bug: The photo is incorrectly saved and sent in portrait orientation, rotated 90 degrees sideways instead of being displayed horizontally.
Additional issue:
1 Close the attachment menu.
2 Hold the iPhone horizontally before opening the attachment menu.
3 Tap the paperclip icon.
4 Bug: The live camera option is unavailable. Only existing photos from the gallery are displayed. Rotate the iPhone vertically, and the live camera option becomes available again.
Expected behavior: Photos taken horizontally should retain their landscape orientation, and the built-in camera should be accessible regardless of the device's orientation.
Note: This worked correctly until November 5, 2026. Restarting the device, clearing Telegram's cache, and completely uninstalling and reinstalling Telegram did not resolve the issue. The native iPhone Camera app works correctly.
