After the recent iOS Share Sheet redesign, messages shared to Telegram may be delivered to the recipient but remain missing from the sender's own chat history.
Recipient-side verification confirms that the messages are delivered successfully and visible to the recipient, despite being absent from the sender's conversation.
The reported cases include plain text, text together with a URL shared from Spring for Twitter, and sometimes a photo with a comment entered in the iOS Share Sheet.
Restarting Telegram does not make the missing outgoing messages appear in the sender's conversation.
Both Telegram and iOS are running the latest public stable releases.
Share content to a contact via Telegram's iOS Share Sheet. Reported cases include plain text, text and URL from Spring for Twitter, and sometimes a photo with a comment entered in the Share Sheet.
Check the recipient's conversation and confirm that the recipient can see the shared message.
Check the sender's conversation and observe that the outgoing message is missing.
Restart Telegram and reopen the sender's conversation.
Check whether the outgoing message has appeared in the sender's chat history.
Current result
The recipient can see the shared message, confirming that it was delivered. However, the outgoing message is missing from the sender's own chat history and remains missing after restarting Telegram.
Expected result
Delivered outgoing messages should appear in both participants' chat histories. The sender should be able to see messages shared through the iOS Share Sheet in their own conversation.
IMPORTANT CORRECTION: the messages ARE delivered to the recipient. The actual bug is that the outgoing shared messages are missing from the sender's own chat history.
I have now checked with the recipient: they can see the shared message, while I (the sender) cannot see it in the conversation. Restarting the entire iPhone does not make the missing message appear on my side.
Please disregard the earlier conclusion in the title/description and my previous comment that sharing fails to deliver. That conclusion was based on the message being absent on the sender's side; recipient-side checking confirms delivery.
Updated reproduction: 1. Share content to a contact via Telegram's iOS Share Sheet (the reported cases include text, text + URL from Spring, and sometimes a photo with a comment typed in the Share Sheet). 2. Check the recipient's conversation: the recipient sees the shared message. 3. Check the sender's conversation: the outgoing message is missing. 4. Reboot the sender's iPhone and reopen Telegram: the message is still missing on the sender's side.
Expected: delivered outgoing messages appear in both participants' chat histories. Actual: the recipient sees the message, but the sender does not, even after a device reboot.
Suggested corrected title: iOS Share Sheet messages reach the recipient but are missing from the sender's chat history, even after reboot.
Correction to my previous comment: I meant restarting the Telegram app, not rebooting the iPhone. The recipient sees the shared message, but it remains missing from the sender's chat history even after restarting Telegram. A full device reboot has not been confirmed. Please replace references to "device reboot" / "reboot the iPhone" above with "restart Telegram".
Final clarification of the affected content: photos ARE visible in the sender's chat history. The missing outgoing content is tweets, links, or text shared through the iOS Share Sheet. The recipient can see that content, but the sender cannot, even after restarting the Telegram app.
For the earlier photo-with-comment example, please do not interpret it as the photo itself disappearing: photos remain visible. The issue concerns the text/link content.
Corrected summary: shared tweets, links and text are delivered to the recipient but missing from the sender's history after restarting Telegram; photos remain visible.
1. Share text / a tweet link from the iPhone via the iOS Share Sheet. 2. On that iPhone, the outgoing text/link message is missing from the sender's conversation, even after restarting Telegram. 3. Open Telegram on the MacBook using the SAME sender account: that exact outgoing text/link message IS visible there. The recipient also sees it. 4. After sharing the link, share a photo from the same iPhone. That photo IS visible on the iPhone. On the MacBook, BOTH the earlier text/link share and the later photo share are visible.
Thus the observed discrepancy is specific to the sending iPhone's history for shared text/links; the message is present in the same account's history on macOS. Photos remain visible on both devices.
Suggested corrected title: Shared text/links reach recipients and appear on sender's Mac, but are missing on the sending iPhone.
The issue is still present on Telegram for iOS 13.1.1 (35634), the build you mentioned. Text/link messages sent through the iOS Share Sheet are delivered to the recipient and are visible on my MacBook under the same sender account, but are still missing from my own chat history on the sending iPhone, even after restarting Telegram. Photos remain visible on both devices.
Since the last App update a couple of days ago I have the same problem. The shared links and their reactions to it don’t show up in my message history in the iOS app if I use the “share to” feature, for the recipient they will show. Copying and pasting a link from Instagram, etc works fine. Sharing pictures from my camera roll works fine as well.
I have now checked with the recipient: they can see the shared message, while I (the sender) cannot see it in the conversation. Restarting the entire iPhone does not make the missing message appear on my side.
