I have an active, fully paid Telegram Premium subscription, valid until April 2027. However, when I try to edit the caption of an existing photo post in a channel, Telegram incorrectly tells me that the caption is too long and suggests purchasing Premium to increase the character limit.
The original long caption was published successfully while my Premium subscription was active. I am only trying to add a short passage to the existing caption, but Telegram appears to apply the non-Premium character limit and prevents me from saving the changes.
I reported the same issue previously, but received no response. The problem eventually disappeared without any action on my part, but now it has returned.
I am not attaching screenshots because this is a public bug report and I do not want to disclose information about my channel.
Current result
When I edit an existing photo caption and add a small amount of text, Telegram displays a character-limit warning and suggests purchasing Premium, even though I already have an active subscription. I cannot save the edited caption.
Expected result
Telegram should recognize my active Premium subscription and apply the corresponding caption length limit when editing existing posts.
Hello, the error may be shown because you’re trying to use a caption that is longer than the maximum allowed even with Premium, which is 4096 characters.
Thank you for your response. However, your explanation does not correspond to what actually happened.
The caption had already been published successfully, in full, with my Premium subscription active. There was no problem with its length.
I was not trying to add any text. I simply wanted to change the formatting of an existing passage of poetry from regular text to italics. No additional characters were being introduced.
Nevertheless, Telegram suddenly claimed that the caption exceeded the permitted length by approximately 600 characters and refused to save the formatting change, suggesting that I purchase Premium — a subscription I already have and pay for.
I regularly publish lengthy posts and carefully monitor their character count to ensure that I remain within the permitted limit.
This is clearly a malfunction, not a failure on my part to observe Telegram's restrictions.
I would appreciate it if this issue were investigated rather than dismissed with a generic explanation of the character limit, which I am already fully aware of.
Can you please also collect and share the app logs?
Open Telegram settings.
Scroll to the bottom and long-press "Telegram for Android". Then release and long-press again. A debug menu page will appear. Select "Enable logging". Close the app. Reopen the app. Reproduce the problem and remember the time (when the app is stuck on updating / connecting) Open Telegram settings, scroll to the bottom and select "Send logs".

The original text has now been restored. As you can see, the caption is nowhere near the 4,096-character limit.
