Ever since Telegram app update 11.8, if you’re in a video chat, and your hand, or anything else for that matter, moves anywhere near the top of your phone screen your screen goes black. I looked it up and this is the proximity sensor. Which is only supposed to turn your screen black when you’re physically on a phone call and the phone is to the side of your face. It’s never supposed to turn black for anything else. The fact that it’s doing it when we’re in a video chat means that the app update is now causing iPhones to register the video chats as a phone call.
Steps to reproduce
Login to the official Telegram app from the Apple App Store on iPhone.
Start a video chat or join one already in progress.
Once in a video chat, you can try to place your finger 3 inches from the proximity sensor or even directly on it if you like. It probably won't do anything at first. You have to be in the video chat for some time before this issue starts to happen. Usually within 10 to 15 minutes. So play around on Telegram for a bit and kill some time, but do it while also being in a Telegram video chat.
This is super annoying. My screen goes black constantly. Would be better to go back as it was.

Did Telegram app update 11.11 for iOS on May 8, 2025 and it did not fix the problem with the proximity sensor. It did not fix the streaming problem on iPhone or iPad either. And yes, there is a bug report for that: Audio of contents you listen to is not shared w... #22966
