Videos can still be watched in Picture-In-Picture mode
Devices running iOS 14, 15, 16 or 17 are affected
I’m unable to play any video after release of the latest update. I have cleared cache, deleted and reinstalled app, restarted phone, and change settings and still can’t play. I can hear but can’t watch the video. This is on an iPhone 8 with up to date OS version.
Steps to reproduce
Playing any video in any chat or channel. It’s not a saved video but one in channel that is posted. Everything was fine until the latest update 11.5 I believe
Of course, you and I, as users, should not really care what kind of problem there is with the encoder or the application, it is important to us that everything should work. And the guys from Telegram have confirmed this problem and promise to fix it.

The issue should be now fixed in v11.5.1 of Telegram.

iPhone SE3, iOS 17.7.2, Telegram 11.5.1. The video is unable to play, only audio and it become mono. upgrade to iOS18.1.1, can play the video but the audio still mono. The video that can’t choose quality aren’t affected.
Telegram 11.5.2 – still issues with videos (playback lags in the begging, sometimes during the playback) iPad, iPadOS 17.7.2. Regression happened after the video quality selection feature and recent updates. Before videos were playing smooth and without any issues.
I think using a free service, it makes no sense to complain about anything. We should be glad that we have such a platform where developers respond. As a last resort, there are other client versions of the telegram application.
