Due to reasons unknown to me, almost all telegram clients I
have tested so far hogs my device's CPU leading to extreme battery drain with a significant increase in battery temperatures.
What happens is that after a certain time, randomly the phone starts to heat up and when you see the active processes using the “top” command with superuser rights, the client seems to occupy 95% to 120% CPU usage.
This has happened to me with:
Nekogram version: 11.2.3
Official Telegram Client: 11.3.3 (playstore – org.telegram.messenger) and 11.3.4 (org.telegram.messenger.web)
Cherrygram: 11.1.3
Ayugram: 10.14.5
When this issue occurs, even toggling airplane mode on does not help. So I feel that network is not a strict reason. It goes away when you force stop the client or lock the phone.
Steps to reproduce
The steps to reproduce it is unknown. All I did was use the app normally. Sometimes the issue takes time to pop up. With 11.3.4 official client, the app was running fine for 18 hours and then it suddenly happened.
1) when did you first notice this problem ? Did it affect previous versions of telegram ? 2) are you using a custom ROM on your 1+12 ? If so, does it have Google services ? 3) did you notice this problem on other phones or other Android versions (or other ROMs) ? 4) did you enable or disable the "keep alive" service in your telegram settings ? 5) does this problem happen even when you're not using the app , ie it's in background ?
1. I noticed this problem around 2-3 days back. 2. Yes I am using a custom ROM on my OnePlus 12 and yes it does have Google services. I talked with the ROM's developer and even he said that this appears to be an issue with telegram upstream / something "weird" and "local" to me as I get the same behaviour on multiple clients across multiple telegram versions. The ROM I am running is YAAP, you can check their GitHub. The developer even suggested I build telegram as a debug, try profiling and such but currently I don't have the knowledge to carry it out. 3. I have never seen this issue in any other device, Android versions. This is so confusing. Even my OnePlus 7T running the same custom ROM (YAAP) does not face this problem. 4. The "keep alive" service is always off by default and i usualy never poke around with it. 5. No, thankfully this issue randomly seems to occur only when I'm actively using the app. When I lock my phone or force stop the client, the issue goes away. Currently it's hard to reproduce as it appears to be random. I have been using Nekogram for 8-10 hrs now and it has been fine but this same exact build gave that issue a few days back.
Sorry I meant to say that I have logs with me that I am willing to share. But I don't see an option to add them here. I actually created an issue in nekogram's repo. There I have attached logs of each client throwing the same error.
Same story. org.telegram.messenger.web 11.11.1 at Android 13 (lenovo tab) Surf channels some time (video, pics, text), than see scrolling lags and feel cpu's heat. Telegram is 1st in cpu usage in processes list (even in background now). Only killing telegram's task stops this.

Did my logs help?
