I recently noticed the helpful feature where Telegram displays a notification at the top of the screen reminding users to top up their star balance for subscriptions. This is a great addition and serves as a somewhat effective reminder to help users stay subscribed.
However, there is currently a bug where the notification cannot be closed by pressing the "X" button. While this is technically an issue, I believe it actually benefits creators, as it ensures that users see the reminder. If the option to close the notification is kept, I suggest it reappears upon app restart or after a set interval (e.g., 12 hours) to prevent users from missing this important prompt. This is because users tend to tap on "X" notifications without fully reading or acting on them (similar to how they dismiss a low battery notification). This raises concerns—how will users resubscribe if they can’t find the link later and want to subscribe? Why would they save the link in the first place?
Additionally, I recommend making the reminder more prominent by sending daily direct notifications or multiple private messages via the official @Telegram bot. This will ensure users are fully aware of the need to top up their balance. Currently, the reminder at the top of the screen can be easily overlooked or dismissed without users understanding its importance.
Given that Telegram doesn’t offer automatic renewal via card—something that is standard in most subscription services—it’s crucial to strengthen the reminder system. Consistent, unavoidable prompts will help retain user subscriptions and encourage creators to choose Telegram over other platforms.
Steps to reproduce
Go to chats
Tap "All chats"
Notification is visible, but when X is pressed it doesn't result in any action.
This also affects Android. But again, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have a very obvious and persistent reminder system in place to ensure users are consistently prompted to top up their star balance and renew their subscriptions. This is CRUCIAL for creators.
