Automatic Notification Mute for Consecutive Messages from a Single Contact
I would like to suggest a feature that would greatly improve the user experience, especially for those of us who have contacts that tend to send multiple messages in rapid succession with very few words in each message.
Currently, when a contact sends 20-30 short messages in a row, it can become very disruptive, especially when sound notifications are enabled. The constant notifications can be loud and irritating.
To address this, I propose a feature that automatically mutes notifications from a specific contact after receiving a certain number of consecutive messages within a short period of time. For example, after receiving 3 messages from the same contact in quick succession, the app would automatically mute further notifications from that contact for a set duration. This way, users won't be bombarded with constant notifications for each individual message.
This feature would help reduce notification fatigue and make the overall experience more pleasant.
Thank you for considering this idea!
Currently we can block users but we are unable to mute them if they participate in conversations in groups where we are present. This can create abusive situations where the blocked user still posts and reacts to posts.
Can we do the following: 1) Add a mute option per user 2) For message that is directed at us, if the mute is active, display a message instead such as "You have muted this user's responses. Please click if you wish to view" 3) For emoji reactions directed at us, if the mute is active, display a mute icon and use a right-click action to display the list of users with their actual reactions only if we right-click on the mute icon. The mute icon can show the number of muted people that have reacted with an emoji to that post.
I suggested making this feature optional and configurable separately for each contact. I wouldn’t want to enable it globally, since there are situations where urgent messages are important.
The blocking logic I have in mind is as follows: the first message plays a notification sound, then any subsequent messages received within the next 3–5 seconds are delivered silently. The mute cycle resets either after 3–5 seconds have passed or as soon as I reply.
