When someone posts a link, Telegram generates a link preview with title, media and some of the text from the page linked. Ever since the October 2023 update, clicking or tapping anywhere inside the preview box opens the link. This means you can't open, expand, zoom or seek some media (images, videos, gifs) from the preview anymore. Allow media to be opened simply when clicked or tapping directly on the media, instead of assuming what the user wants to do. Users have enough intelligence to know to click the colored, underlined link (which is standard UX everywhere) if they want to open the link itself. If you dont want this to be the default, then at least add a setting for it.
I guess they have zero intention on reverting this change. I've already heard of some malicious links being hidden like this. It needs to change.

I really do not understand why this change was even made. Previous behaviour was a great feature, plus tracking and security protection. The new behaviour provides no value at all. If you want to increase the click surface, make the background block clickable, but not the media itself.
Thanks, Telegram! I love clicking on preview images of links that people send me and instead of just showing the full image on the screen, like it does with most links previews, it just without any warning opens the browser to tell my employer what kind of kitchen implements I like to look at! This is such great usability and also aligns perfectly with Telegram's statement that it is very privacy-focussed!
Have you updated Telegram Desktop? This was fixed in mid-November 2023. There is a "do you want to open this link?" when clicking to open a link on TG Desktop. If you don't have it, make sure you don't happen to have Enhanced Settings -> "disable open link warning" isn't selected.
I think this is in regular TG Desktop, I just installed 64gram a few months ago and forgot if it was different or not
