When someone posts a link, Telegram generates a link preview with title, media and some of the text from the page linked. Ever since the October 2023 update, clicking or tapping anywhere inside the preview box opens the link. This means you can't open, expand, zoom or seek some media (images, videos, gifs) from the preview anymore. Allow media to be opened simply when clicked or tapping directly on the media, instead of assuming what the user wants to do. Users have enough intelligence to know to click the colored, underlined link (which is standard UX everywhere) if they want to open the link itself. If you dont want this to be the default, then at least add a setting for it.
Why would yall do this, this a purposeful downgrade stop messing with stuff thats perfectly fine and focus on actual issues people complain about

Having fancy quotes is nice and all, but the point of an embed is that I can view the media without opening in a browser/other app, especially as some previewed things end up not viewable because certain services force login and I'm not gonna bother logging into every single thing on all the devices I use just to see a picture I was shared, nor do I want to open a dozen tabs when multiple people send me stuff. Just let us see medias embed from Telegram like before, and like pretty much every other chat program out there I use.

This is a very odd change that to me, adds no additional functionality and honestly REMOVES functionality from the program. It makes no sense to me and should not be a thing. Perfectly functional beforehand and should go back to that.

Indeed a very bad design choice. Please remove this instantly, thanks.

This change means that many pictures/other media can no longer be viewed because the linked sites require login even for "public" media (bsky, xitter, …), non-mobile browsers, full javascript support (mastodon, ...) and really reduces the value of posting links. Please allow showing the linked media again on click, at least optionally.

You can still pinch to zoom on it, like before, but it's very annoying and useless. I'd like a toggle, to switch to the old behaviour.
It's blantanly rent-seeking behavior. They took something that was a normal feature, and then made it worse so that you have to buy the Premium version of the app to get it back.
so now we get a tiny button in the corner, that doesn't even allow scrolling between the embed images like the old behavior did... i guess it's better than nothing, but it's still a massive downgrade. :/ wish they'd just have the old behavior behind an experimental setting or something, just like they kept square chat bubbles there. but whatever

Adding another one to the pile here, this is very annoying behaviour and causes concerns about having to actually visit the site that's hosting the image instead of of just viewing from preview. Please make it a setting rather than enforcing it!
