When someone posts a link, Telegram generates a link preview with title, media and some of the text from the page linked. Ever since the October 2023 update, clicking or tapping anywhere inside the preview box opens the link. This means you can't open, expand, zoom or seek some media (images, videos, gifs) from the preview anymore. Allow media to be opened simply when clicked or tapping directly on the media, instead of assuming what the user wants to do. Users have enough intelligence to know to click the colored, underlined link (which is standard UX everywhere) if they want to open the link itself. If you dont want this to be the default, then at least add a setting for it.
I think they meant an alternative Telegram client, its API is open and everyone is welcome to create their own clients

After I found out about Stories, I turned off automatic app updates on all devices and now I manually update everything except Telegram. And I watch in horror as the application deliberately becomes worse and worse with each new version, because sooner or later compatibility will be lost and I will have to update.

The developers fixed it for video, but not for photos. And it looks absurd.
Also, before fixing the bug for videos, the bug also applied to links like https://t.me/mudak/79920. That is, when clicking on photos and videos from such previews, I was thrown to the channel. Now I am not. Neither with photos nor with videos.
What prevents you from doing the same for photos linked to third-party sites, if you have already fixed it for links to channels in Telegram?
Update. Bug with t.me links with photos in previews is still not fixed. I can open images without throwing to the channel only if link have 2+ photos (album).
As of iOS 10.2.1, videos can now be played again. But images still open the link instead of expanding to full screen.

THIS. Why is it so hard to do?

This update makes me not want to post links anymore since the previews (which used to work great) are now almost completely useless. Dropping a tweet into a conversation used to be an effortless way for everyone to see what they needed from it and keep chatting, now it forces you over to a browser to see anything more than 10 words or a tiny thumbnail image. Whose idea was this?!

Please do make this a toggle. This behaviour is still present for regular image links, so this shouldn't be particularly hard.
