There is a possible data loss incident in progress with Telegram's service.
I have just logged onto Telegram to find my chat history with a close friend missing, for the second time (with the same friend) in a week. The first time, I opened our conversation to find six years of messages gone without a trace. He has told me this has now happened to his conversation with another friend. We are both exporting all our data to ensure we don't lose any other history with friends and loved ones, and considering switching to another messenger service.
We have both confirmed with absolute certainty, both today and last week, that auto-delete is turned off for our conversation. We cannot find any setting in any app on either side that could be responsible for this. Neither of us has taken any action that would lead to this. Our only conclusion is that Telegram is silently deleting his chat history due to a server-side problem. I would classify this as a priority 0 issue.
Steps to reproduce
We cannot reliably reproduce this issue as it does not occur in response to any actions we have taken, but it has occurred multiple times.
