😁 ≠ 😂 — "Smiling" and "Laughing" are two different reactions.

In the previous betas Telegram replaced the laughing reaction in order to avoid confusion with the crying reaction. The new emoji Telegram chose is fundamentally wrong, because when someone make a joke I laugh, I don't smile. It's awkward to smile only.
We all answer "Hahaha", we don't just stand there smiling.

I suggest to replace 😁 with 😆

Please bring an option where the user decides for himself whether it will be displayed or not. I hate these reaction emojis.

When someone decides to use “🤮” or “💩” as a reaction, most of the time the intention is to signal some degree of repulsiveness, but it does not need to be so tightly related to the physiology of our gastrointestinal tracts.

An equivalent of a swear word would suffice.

Hence my suggestion here is adding “🤬” to the list of available reactions.

The reaction of “😱” delivers the announcement of literally screaming in fear.

Almost never used so literally, this reaction is mostly used only as a metaphor for milder actual reactions and for lesser degrees of fear.

However, a milder reaction emoji might still be useful for conveying a moderate degree of dread or uncomfortability — a degree that is associated with a “cold sweat”, not with a “scream”.

Hence my suggestion here is adding “😓” to the list of available reactions.

There is currently no reaction that makes it known that some message
is deemed useful as a food for thought, or that the message delivered
some ground-breaking, or mind-breaking, or numinous thoughts or experiences.

Hence my suggestion here is adding “🤔” and “🤯” to the list of available reactions.

At least “🤔”.

When and where a mere “👍” does not feel sufficient, the current list of available reactions does offer only “🎉” (to indicate that a message is worthy of a celebration) and “❤️” (to indicate a much stronger feeling of “love”, usually only metaphorically to convey that the message is “liked”).

Hence my suggestion here is adding also “👏” (a well-known traditional act of commending and praise) and “💯” (to convey a high level of agreement or acceptance or understanding the perfection) to the list of available reactions.

Sometimes “❤️” does not suffice to deliver the feeling of stronger adoration or infatuation, and hence I suggest adding “😍” as well.

I'd like to second this, i.e. it would be great if arbitrary emojis could be used. Ofc this creates the problem that a huge number of different emojis might be used as reaction to a single message which is hard to display - not in private chats though, since one can't react with more than 1 emoji. A few ideas on that: 1. admins could be limited in the number of emojis that they allow - but not in the choice of emojis. 2. emojis with different skin color values could be grouped. 3. display only the first x emojis that got the most reactions + possibly some kind of "show more" field the first one would be a server-side limitation. 2+3 could probably be realized largely client-side and can even be combined

This seems the best solution since each channel/group may fit with a different selection of emojis. I would like the "🙏" emoji in some groups and agree that there needs to be a better laugh emoji: 🤣 or 😆. Am very grateful that reactions have been added tho - thank you!

We need these also for reactions 😐, 🤭,🤔,🙄,❓,⁉️,❗️; sometimes you need to interact in private groups to let people know you're not ignoring them, but have nothing to say, or that the post needs more explanation.

How about Telegram unsend this whole update following your logic. We were able to send 👍🏽, and much much more before the reactions update 😬.

Man, I mean "Just leave a 👍" as a reaction, obviously. Your request is pleonastic. We're using the like reaction in the past 15 years for multiple purposes, also the most generic ones (as per your request).
