An option to interact with links right from the Bio without copying the text and then pasting it to the Telegram global search (for t.me/
and @username
instances) or in the browser (for website URLs
).
Allowing clickable entities in Bio would improve the experience and save time when dealing with link instances, e.g., someone can open your channel right away with a tap on a @username
you mentioned in the Bio. Links can be counted separately, so the current character limit of 70 symbols for Bio won't be exceeded.
Demo – the attached video.
There's a reason behind why telegram won't let us use bio links in mobile apps!! Considering how easy it is to implement.
I believe it's because BIO is currently too short to fit most links. and that drives people towards using short and vague URLs. URLs that u don't know where they'll take you.(goo.gl, short)
If user taps on a suspicious URL, their security might get into big trouble. That's why we should first request telegram to give us enough bio space that holds most of the common full-length URLs with HTTPS:// in front of them. So that users can be sure that they aren't going to an unsafe place. (something above 120-130+ characters)
I deeply believe, if this comes, allowance of links will follow soon afterwards.
Let me give you an example:
"HTTPS://" alone is 8 characters!
Average link lenght to an app in playstore is 80+ characters. So a simple developer who wants to link the visitors of their bio to their app on playstore, has to shorten the link. and people wont even be able to tell that it's a playstore link!
many wikipedia, even telegra.ph links! go even higher and simply wont fit.
With current bio length(70), it's understandable for people to trust short URLs because everybody looks at it and knows that the complete URL wouldn't fit anyways, and there is no other choice. But after justification for doing this is removed and sufficient space is given to fit most of common URLs, people will recognize short and vague urls as suspicious. because if the complete URL was safe, the profile owner would just put it there on display!!
Until then, i kinda understand why tg wont let users view bio links on phones. even tho i liked and upvoted this suggestion.
Since June 2022, links in bio are available for Telegram Premium subscribers: https://telegram.org/blog/700-million-and-premium#doubled-limits
