Hi Telegram Team,
I have a feature suggestion that I believe would greatly benefit users who frequently travel or communicate across time zones.
Currently, the app displays message timestamps based on the device's local time. However, I often find myself in situations where I need the app to display messages in a different timezone—for example, when I’m in Israel but want my Telegram chats to reflect New York time. This can be helpful for sharing screenshots with others who need to see the exact time messages were sent in their familiar timezone.
Here’s what I propose:
Add a setting where users can manually select a preferred timezone for message displays (e.g., New York timezone) instead of relying solely on the device’s local time.Allow different devices (e.g., phone and laptop) to have independent timezone settings. For example, I could keep my laptop on local time but set my phone to display NY time.Ensure that notifications remain accurate by displaying relative timestamps like “2 minutes ago” instead of being affected by the custom timezone setting (to avoid confusion).
This feature would make the app more flexible and user-friendly, especially for travelers and remote workers. Thanks for considering it! 😊
