Bugs and Suggestions

Ads WILL necessitate the relaxation of data harvesting. I have been using this app in some capacity for something like 8 years now, and I'm not optimistic about this change.

I use the app to text people. In an attempt to flex on discord, twitch, instagram and other vaguely related services, however, the app has been letting out poorly planned updates with a slew of bad features or, at least, terribly executed features. Like, the "post as channel" in public groups is a mountain of a mess alone, but that's not my point here.

To make a long story short, Telegram is heading toward selling out. I'm calling it here. They're starting to make the app HARDER to use, navigate, and manage to make features that rival their "competitors" and it's probably been leading up to this to begin with: the next step on a slippery slope we've been going down for a while.

But this? Now? No. I get that devs need to eat, but if the plan is to just f*ck over the users and sell out, I'm not paying for this sh*t and I'm not allowing my channels to generate ad revenue for an app on the road to betray its foundations, and us.

This is not the attitude that got Telegram where it is.

Matrix too, but yeah. Would be great if telegram stayed the pinnacle, rather than becoming a mess of extremist ads

This. We all know there's other platforms. We've been told there are other platforms for years. We stayed for a reason, talking about alternatives isn't really productive itt.

I was just offering information for those that don’t know about Signal. Believe it or not, there are many people out there that do not know Signal exists or Telegram for that matter.

In addition, if Telegram starts with the ads, I will begin using Signal more.

ads in telegram sounds so distasteful that even the introverts are here to say how distasteful it is. if telegram gets ads, i think that the next "we got X million users today :D" announcement wont happen for quite a while because a big chunk of the userbase will just straight up leave

quick alternatives that come to my brain: "free users can upload files up to 2gb, paid users can upload files up to 5gb" or something like that. also telegram does have some payment thing iirc, so maybe something to get the monei could come from there. it would probably screw a bunch of users but it wouldnt be screwing __most__ users

there are many options that doesnt involve implementing stuff that makes the userbase go "ewww". and yet you decided to have ads. not cool.

note!! Telegram advertising will be on channels only. if you use telegram as a communication (chats / groups) as a whatsapp and a signal, then you will not see an advertisement

if Pavel leads ads only in telegram channels to cover server costs, this means we, users and advertisers, support telegrams. But the signal is not known by whom it is sponsored .... perhaps the US government .. Snowden cannot be credible.
