Bugs and Suggestions

It is curious that Telegram cries out from the rooftops for the virtues of its privacy and is not able to add something as simple as this. A pity so much hypocrisy.

I agree, I think it is an intermediate point to have the comfort of not having private messages full and at the same time whoever wants, can avoid entering that menu and will pretend never to receive private messages.

Absolutely agree with this. Scammers are rampant. We need to be able to have control of who messages; maybe even something as simple as "Do you want to allow messages from Number XXXXXXXXXX // Username: @BlahBlahBlah?"

Telegram, PLEASE add this. I administer several medium-sized groups, and they ALL complain of imposters and scammers. How can something like this take so long to implement???

Privacy is about keeping what you want to keep in your bubble in your bubble. When people reach out to you, they have not touched your bubble in any way - you still retain the decision of whether to talk to them or ignore. You retain the choice of how to react.

This does not make any sense. People are getting scammed every single day.

I understand your concern. Another but similar suggestion: First message sent by stranger can only be text-based. Then if you choose to engage with them, i.e. reply, then the capability to send you pictures/videos is unlocked for them. That should screen off some people because it’s more work for them. And you never have to add anyone to your contacts. Just throwing ideas out there…

Scammers only need text.

I think the solution should be some kind of input message box, which can be achieved by archiving the chat today, but it is not the ideal use for it. I think limiting the ability to write to a person privately, even more so if they have a @public username, would be a contradiction to the idea of the app, which is primarily a messaging app. I don't know, writing this, I see myself able to do something in case the person does not have a user, but I understand that the "drawback" comes from having that @username.

To me, it's simple. Telegram has groups functionality, so it is not primarily a messaging app. Groups are growing, and people FLOCK from other networks to use groups in Telegram instead.

Best way is: if you have a username, then you are public.

If not, you can stop people from private messaging you. Simple.

I will do. I must say, I'm very surprised that this card has so little upvotes... I guess it maybe makes sense, but it reminds me of a political public participation process where there is no visibility, and so nobody comments, and so government does what it likes 😅

I tried in many places to post it. Mostly on large groups. Usually the users that are vulnerable are not the ones that know this suggestions platform exists and don't care to give it a hands up.

We admins of those medium-large communities are the ones that have to push it and to teach new users about this. Telegram is clearly not helping new users that are exploring public groups andare not educated on this topics.
