Sure, by upgrading each new group to a supergroup immediately upon creation, this situation can be avoided.

It's important to keep in mind that the supergroup created by upgrading a basic group is an entirely separate chat.
Hence all these "annoyances" are in reality perfecty logical results of the 2 group chats being separate entities.
Telegram's apps are designed to display 1 chat at a time. In this case, after the "upgrade", the one chat being displayed is the supergroup.
Can you find a situation in telegram where you're able to open 2 chats at the same time ?

That makes sense, thank you for clarifying the process, even if I don't completely understand what happens with the original group, I don't think there's a way to access it once the upgrade is done. The point where I see margin for a fix is, for example, some kind of merging strategy of the previous regular group into the new supergroup to import the state of the media preview list. Because the content is actually merged.

Thx for the detailed comment and the list of related issues. If the upgrade to a supergroup is creating a completely new chat overview and more or less a completely new group, why is there an issue in the Telegram Android client but not in Telegram Desktop? Looks like the group behaves normally on the Desktop App, with the complete group and supergroup history being present in the shared media section. Thus, it looks like it might be an easy to fix issue on the Android client side :)

to be honest i don't know what kind of trick is used by the desktop client to avoid these issues experienced by the mobile clients,
it may be related to how the desktop client doesn't store local copies of chats, while the mobile clients do, which would lead to this separation of group histories appearing on the mobile clients... but this is just speculation x)

This issue also happened to my group after enabling threads and then disabling threads again. Please look into this. Or maybe someone has a workaround. Really annoying bug

It's a bug in the Android application. If you don't see it - it's not fixed.

I also see the issue in the Web client, and others report it in iOS. It's worse on the Web as all of the tabs are emptied, not only the Media tab.

My groups were inadvertently converted to supergroups by the new Shared Folders feature, and thousands of media made inaccessible in the Media tab.

(Access is poor in chat, particularly as the search-by-date feature does not work properly for me in these chats at all.)

Will the Media tab get "repopulated" with the older photos if you change Chat History back to Hidden? Or will it get even worse?

It seems that the only way to see the old medias after the group to supergroup upgrade is through Telegram Desktop. I have created a backup group where I have sent all the pre-upgrade medias. This is the only workaround as today.
